New artificial grass ring on athletics track

The CAR track track incorporates an artificial turf ring, which complements the asphalt track, the tartan and the natural turf of the same. This material is more fluffy than asphalt and tartan, while being more regular than natural grass.

The incorporation of this equipment is an improvement for athletes who use the track, the athletes and other sports that include running on foot (triathlon, pentathlon), but also for other modalities that at specific times of the season make use of it for their physical preparation, such as swimmers or gymnasts.

The first to premiere it have been the athletes of the triathlon group, who have made a very positive assessment, for the comfort of it. The coach responsible for the group, Joan Mayol, values, in addition to comfort, the fact that “now we can choose the surface for each job we do.”

For the physiotherapist of the Center Miquel Àngel Cos, specialist in athletics, the main advantage of this type of surface is the “prevention of overloads and injuries, especially in athletes who do training with very long runs, or even for warmups or for athletes who have just emerged from an injury.”

The new artificial grass ring is a new incentive for international athletics groups who tend to make preparations in the CAR during the season, especially in spring and summer. The CAR has observed an increase in these groups in recent years, and was recognized internationally in 2015 as a Training Center for the IAAF (International Athletics Federation).
